Sony has revealed a new Midnight Black digital edition of the PS5, set to launch in Japan on November 19, coinciding with the release of GTA 6. Priced at 55,000 yen (approximately $350), this variant is aimed at boosting sales in Japan, where it will be exclusively available. The console requires users to have their system language set to Japanese and account set to the Japanese region to function, making it challenging for non-Japanese players to purchase the console. If players currently own a PS5 Slim, there is an option to purchase separate Midnight Black console covers for around $54. These covers can be easily attached to existing consoles to achieve the same aesthetic as the new design. Pre-orders for the Midnight Black PS5 will commence on October 20, alongside a matching disc drive. While Sony has made no announcements regarding wider releases, there is speculation about potential additional bundles or special editions for GTA 6. Marketing has emphasized that GTA 6 will offer a superior experience on PS5, suggesting possible future collaborations between Sony and Rockstar Games. However, for those outside Japan, accessing this new console remains a complex task.
