GTA 6 could have had a bigger scope and released earlier
A new report details how GTA 6's scope was initially larger and its release date was pushed back due to development challenges.
rssGTA 6 Could Have Been Even Bigger And Released Years Sooner, But Then These Things HappenedA recent report reveals that GTA 6's development faced changes that impacted its scope and release timeline. Initially, Rockstar envisioned a game that covered vast areas of both North and South America under the project name "Project Americas". However, the vision was significantly reduced, resulting in a focus on Miami and nearby areas. Despite this, the game will still feature a map three times larger than that of Red Dead Redemption II.
Locations confirmed for GTA 6 include Vice City, Leonida, the Keys, and various other sites. The report indicates that the game could have launched years earlier, as there were plans to develop it concurrently with Red Dead Redemption II. However, as production on the latter expanded, resources were reallocated, causing delays for GTA 6.
Additionally, Rockstar addressed rumors regarding GTA 6's development cost, denying the claim it reached $1.5 billion but not disclosing the actual cost. Pre-sales have already generated significant revenue, and the game was first scheduled for a 2025 release date but has now been set for November 19, 2026, pending further delays.
